How to Read and Write BMW DME MEVD172G with Ktag KTM100


DIY – DME/ECU Read Write and Tuning  2016MY F82 M using Ktag KTM100 master clone ecu tuning tool.

Parts arrived this morning. Below are pictures of what was included in the box.
KTAG KTM100 Clone (US$349)
-12v/1A AC Adapter
-USB2.0 A-to-B Cable
-Cables to wire up to the DME



Prepping Bench PC:
The instructions provided recommend the use of WinXP/Win7, disabling all network connections and malware detection programs. I was in a rush to stage the software and connect the flashing tool to ensure all was OK so I tested the following setup on a Win10Pro x64 machine. I also made the changes below before starting:
-Disable Driver Signature Enforcement – REQUIRED or Dimsport driver will not install and device will show as ‘Unknown’ under Device Manager
-Disable AV/Malware Software – I use Webroot/Defender and shut them off
-Disable LAN/WLAN adapters

After making the changes above to my PC I powered up the adapter and plugged in the USB cable. Windows warned me of the unsigned driver and continued the install.

Bringing up KTM100 I see all is recognized correctly. You can also see below that the DME is supported and a plugin is available to communicate with that DME and calculate the correct checksum. I think I’m ready to start!




On Sunday I was able to get the car on the dyno and grab some factory numbers.


Phase 1 – Reading the DME:

Here she is. Bosch MEVD172G DME.

Below are a few pictures of the outside of the unit. I cleaned up a bit of sand around the unit to make sure nothing gets in while I attempt to open it up.



After about 30 minutes with a small blade going around the edges of the unit I was able to open the casing up. Luckily the components are not close to the edge of the case so as you’re going around it with a blade you don’t have to worry too much. But as always be careful not to jam the blade too deep; you may accidentally damage some of the surface mounted components.



Wired up the unit to the KTM100 clone using the PDF I posted earlier. Reading procedure is as follows:

1. Connect wires from the provided harnesses to the DME pins as shown in the Bosch PDF including BOOT pin.
2. Power ON KTM100 and connect to USB on PC
3. Launch KTM100 Application
4. Connect the harness side of the cables to the KTM100
5. Click ‘ID’ in KTM100 Application to verify DME communication.
6. Done. Now you can carry out the function you need (read/write/etc)





Phase 2 – Tuning:

You have two options:

1. Acquire and LEARN tuning software like WinOLS, ECM TITANIUM or similar, and spend time and resources on custom dyno tuning the car.

2. Take your dumped files and send them off to a tuner for tuning service. Most US tuners will flat out turn your business away. I wont call them out here but I would encourage you to contact them and listen to their response first hand.


I installed the DME back into the car yesterday afternoon. It was pretty nerve wrecking to sit in the car and push the ‘Start’ button. I was very confident I followed all the right steps but theres always that sense of uncertainty in the back of your mind. What if i damaged something? At that moment I didn’t care if the remaps actually yielded any results; I was just hoping the car would crank back up. I held my breath, pushed ‘Start’ and the car sprung back to life. It was such a sense of accomplishment.



Ktag 7.020 deleted DPF, EGR, DTC: success!

Finally received my Ktag package. It’s firmware 7.020 master version. and tested on three cars today today.

Now, i’ll chip in some words of my experience.

In summary, i’m satisfied! This ktag works good for me, without issues.

Later, i’ll test on more (Mercedes S Class W221 ME9.7 ECU, Vw passage 1.6 TDI pcr2.1, etc.)

How to Set up Ksuite V2.23 for Ktag firmware v7.020

This is the installation guide of Ktag firmware 7.020 Ksuite ecu programming software 2.23 master version.

Read Opel Insignia ECU EDC17C59 via KTAG

Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to use V2.13 KTAG V6.070 ECU Programmer reading Opel Insignia ECU EDC17 C59 in EEPROM TC1767.

First, you need the main unit—ktag ksuite V2.13 ECU master , $79 at obdii365.com here:


Material needed:

Cable 14P600KT02

16-way rainbow ribbon cable 144300T105

Two 470 Ohm resistors

Solder wires


You can start reading Opel Insignia ECU now!

Take apart the ECU from vehicle, open the ECU unit and connect ECU with KTAG




If you don’t know how to connect to ECU, you can choose “Plug-in 688…” to check detailed connection instruction, or it may cause damage to ECU, good luck for you!


Select vehicle model and ECU: OPEL-> Insignia -> BOSCH EDC17C59

EU clone is different from Chinese clone… The EU version is made on Austria with blue PCB (blue, red, purple, 3 colors of eu clone from different places)… while the Chinese version is made in the China factory with green PCB and high quality components.

Ktag V6.070 checksum error when read edc16c34

I had checksum error when reading PSA edc16c34 with Ktag K-tag firmware V6.070 master clone. Here’s the problem and possible solution provided by forum members. This a long story.


I have a question for the experts of ktag / kess v2, yesterday received a ktag v6.070 and installed the software that brought in CD and to my astonishment has connection error and info has no serial number(L00000000), open the ktag and check that the SD card is corrupted has no information, this PC that used the ktag has no connection to the internet, now my doubts and have blocked nxp or so will be the sd card?

I’ll try to explain what aconteceo step by step.

1- installed as sw 2:13 brought the album exactly like this in the video in Win XP 32bit
2- called the machine and it installed the driver
3- plucked with softwear and he regular start all functional 100%
4 tried to read edc16c34 via direct bdm without pad as I regularly fgtech until before welding the ECU confirmed the position frame not to destroy the unit.
not read the error unit no longer remember that error then I turned off the ktag and as already had soldade pad connected to fgtech galletto and read all 100% ok.
5- back to connect to ktag boom and error and never worked.
problem and the Internet is impossible that computer has never been connected to the Internet so that the kess v2 works very well.
read here in the forum could be the card and formatted the card thinking that it was damage that was already corrupted.
in short there will be a solution for this ktag?

I will check all welds. But then someone can tell where it comes from the ktag the problem will be the nxp or sd? Can anyone share the sd 6.070 version since I formatted my card !!

I got the free sd 6.070 and test the sd and also reworking the welds a pergutna and format fat32.

With no positive results all the same reworked the nxp welds and nothing formated sd card in fat32 put the 3 folders in the root and nothing same error (not established connection). Can I have blocked nxp? or will be error hardware and software not !!!

and now what will be the problem of my ktag? after a few hours to weld the plate removed and returned to put the LPC ktag agreed so that as he had formatted the card he returned updating think was without tokens can check the image !!

but the error is always the same read ok but when writing the checksum error and the craziest and the file has the 500k capacity and the memory would have to be 2mb, tested on two different machines with win xp and win vista and today tested in Visteon dcu 102 in boot mode and not the error, talves the problem is the bdm port, and very unlikely that an ktag not make reading a edc16c34.

Ksuite make password protected zip file with ECU firmware if checksumm is not OK.
You can sure in that opening it in winzip. Unpacked file is 2mb size.

You do not notice anything, he’s read error in bdm so I’m doing writing, and incredible in tricoer boot is read correctly has been tested on Visteon dcu 102 and is read perfectly.

good again, today I made another test to ktag in bdm EDC16 and this time and 1000% ok. I think the problem is in PSA units, which does not explain the ktag as powerful machine that and not read a simple edc16c34.



My connection is normal usb cable and power 12v. In this moment I have resolve the problem of psa units and I use trasdata it working 100%.i have reworked my ktag and detect some transistors dead. psa ecu has checksum corrupt. ksuite save crypted files if checksum is not ok. trasdata save files without problem.


Kess v2 and Ktag China clone master,which one?

Kess (even china good clone)…more stable than Mpps on can-line and good job on recovery…
and best ktag-trasdata-no obd but safe boot mode,pinout direct conection and bdm…
KESS V2 is a ECU programming tool that is perfect for OBD use, while KTag is perfect for Jtag, BDM and all the Boot application (tricore and ST10).
With KESS V2 you programming directly through the OBD port of the vehicle, while with Ktag you need to take apart the ECU and open it, after you can make the read/write operation.

Many ECU has the advantage that can be read and write from OBD port (so KESS V2 is perfect), but there are lot ECU that need to disassemble from the car and open and this is the case for all the ECU that need to be programmed with Jtag, BDM and Boot protocols, so KTAG is needed.

FYI, the difference between master and slave version:
If you have master version you can work directly on the program you have write on the vehicle (tuning, egr off, ….) and rewrite after directly. If you are a slave custommer (who depend of a master (who do modificated), you read the programme (cripted by genius), you send it to the master, he do what you whant (money paid) and he re-sent to you to write in the ecu machine
it is expensive for the slave user who depend of a master.

Option 3: Check the PCB, from the PCB, you can judge KESS V2/KTAG quality.
Take the best selling Ktag V6.070 (SE80-C) and Kess v2 V4.036 (SE87-C) for example.
For other PCB, just browse www.obdii365.com and search KESS V2 or ktag.

Dimsport Trasdata Problems Solved by Ktag KTM100 7.003

Last week, I did a test on Trasdata with my China clone KTAG KTM100, for I got info that Trasdata is compatible with K-Tag firmware v7.003- supports the same cars/ecus but shows how many tokens you have left and can supposedly be used with internet connection (ksuite cannot).


I downloaded Dimsport Trasdata software on the web:Dimsport Trasdata.zip


But KTAG ecu tuning master has no tokens showing on trasdata and when switch back to ktag.ept when opening ksuite it says “update not complete connect tool to internet to complete update”? I have noticed though on the old laptop when you open trasdata it has pop up message saying “there is update available”, possibly installing today update automatically and block ktag


Then problem solved! Trasdata is automatically downloading an update now and blocking unit so be careful! I had to flash ktag.ept back, put 6.070 update files in 2.08 update folder and put 6.070 sd files on a NEW sd card.


Unluckily, connection damaged the KTAG! A friend in mhhauto said something about this, that “you will have to switch back to ktag.ept and put new sd card in with sd files on to fix, when installing this now trasdata automatically updates to the latest version, if you had installed it before the update was released then you just receive a message asking to update when starting trasdata.”


Having read lots of post on forums to find a way around this at present for new installations, and finally, the problem is resolved by taking a version of Chinese KTM100 FW 7.003 ecu programmer, installing and replacing Trasdata.exe; ChksumDll.dll; TrsdtDLL.dll from the download software.
Infoplugins.dat file I left by Chinese because the reserves more info from Chinese, you have to try … And everything works fine.
Thar is,

First, install KTM 100 from China, then they replace files from the download zip, all as described by in but no update !!!
(((Copy Trasdata.exe from archive to “Program Files / Dimsport / Trasdata”. CopyFolder “Settings” to “Program Data / Dimsport“. Copy files from folder system32 to “Windows / System32)))
Next, use the program online.
Because of an error:
“K-Tag work OK.I try VAG edc17cp20 i have same error (Crp file not found ). K-tag read and write .”

The correct Protocol of KTM100 HW 7.003 are located in “Program Data / Dimsport / pack / ntdpack.zip” they should upgrade to SD card, einetlich to 7003
